Akamai & Apiiro expand partnership for unified app security

Fri, 3rd Oct 2025

Akamai and Apiiro have announced an expanded partnership to offer an integrated application security posture management platform for enterprises.

The collaboration combines Akamai's application security platform with Apiiro's agentic application security posture management (ASPM) platform, designed to help organisations protect their applications across the entire software development lifecycle.

Expanded integration

The partnership, which started in 2024 with a focus on API visibility in source code, has evolved in response to growing enterprise needs. The joint offering now provides what both companies describe as a comprehensive API security platform. This includes full API inventory and discovery, visibility across varied environments, posture management, and runtime protection, delivered through Akamai API Security and App & API Protector.

Beyond API security, the integrated offering aims to address broader industry challenges such as software supply chain risks and fragmentation among security tools. The combined platform intends to consolidate governance, accelerate remediation efforts, and provide development and security teams with a central platform for managing application risk at scale.

The agreement further entails integrated customer support and alignment of product roadmaps between Akamai and Apiiro. This integration offers a consolidated view of application risk, including aspects from API discovery and posture management to open source components, misconfigurations, infrastructure as code, and web application firewalls (WAF).

Industry challenges

Enterprises are facing a range of challenges including faster development cycles with AI-assisted coding and quick releases, leading to new APIs and dependencies emerging at high speed. Another challenge is tool fragmentation, where various security scanners and API security solutions operate in silos, often resulting in alert fatigue due to a lack of context and prioritisation.

There are also governance gaps, which cause difficulties for Security and DevOps leaders seeking a centralised control plane for policy enforcement, software bills of materials (SBOMs), and risk reporting throughout the development lifecycle. In parallel, the rise of agentic AI has led to a dramatic increase in API volume, further complicating access management and broadening the attack surface for potential threats.

The expanded Akamai and Apiiro partnership seeks to tackle these issues by integrating Akamai's security intelligence into the Apiiro ASPM platform. This allows customers to connect runtime and code-level insights, creating a prioritised vulnerability backlog that is informed by business context.

This partnership expands our ability to help customers manage application risk holistically. By combining our API and other security insights with Apiiro's ASPM, organizations get a single, prioritized view of application risk that helps them move faster, stay compliant, and reduce costs.

This statement was made by Patrick Sullivan, Chief Technology Officer of Security Strategy at Akamai, highlighting the intended benefits of the combined platform.

Akamai's commitment to delivering Apiiro's ASPM to its global customers demonstrates the power of a unified approach. Together we're giving enterprises the visibility, context, prioritization, and remediation workflows they need to stay ahead of threats without slowing innovation.

Idan Plotnik, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Apiiro, added these comments, underlining the focus on risk management and supporting development velocity.

Key benefits

The integrated solution offers complete visibility, enabling organisations to discover APIs, services, code dependencies, and misconfigurations across various environments, including code, cloud, and runtime. The platform provides context-driven risk correlation, helping teams understand which vulnerabilities are exploitable, ownership of issues, and the potential impacts.

Customers are able to prioritise remediation based on runtime exposure, data sensitivity, and business impact, focusing efforts on addressing the most critical issues first. According to the companies, one Fortune 100 insurance provider has achieved annual savings of more than USD $3 million by automating developer hours, speeding up remediation, and improving visibility into critical risks across over 2,400 applications.

The partnership positions Akamai and Apiiro to enable enterprises to modernise their approach to application security, streamlining signal management, and supporting protection against current and emerging threats in dynamic organisational environments.
