Google to acquire Wiz in USD $32 billion cloud security deal

Yesterday

Google has announced it will acquire Wiz in an all-cash deal valued at USD $32 billion, subject to customary closing adjustments.

This transaction, once completed, will see Wiz become part of Google Cloud, a strategic move aimed at bolstering cloud security and embracing multicloud capabilities.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, stated, "From its earliest days, Google's strong security focus has made us a leader in keeping people safe online. Today, businesses and governments that run in the cloud are looking for even stronger security solutions, and greater choice in cloud computing providers. Together, Google Cloud and Wiz will turbocharge improved cloud security and the ability to use multiple clouds."

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, remarked on the shared vision between Google Cloud and Wiz: "Google Cloud and Wiz share a joint vision to make cybersecurity more accessible and simpler to use for organizations of any size and industry. Enabling more companies to prevent cyber attacks, including in very complex business software environments, will help organizations minimize the cost, disruption and hassle caused by cybersecurity incidents."

Assaf Rappaport, Co-Founder and CEO of Wiz, commented on the commitment to customer security across major cloud platforms, saying, "Wiz and Google Cloud are fully committed to continue supporting and protecting customers across all major clouds, helping keep them safe and secure wherever they operate. This is an exciting moment for our company, but an even more important one for customers and partners, as this acquisition will bolster our mission to improve security and prevent breaches by providing additional resources and deep AI expertise."

Wiz is noted for offering a security platform that interfaces with major cloud and code environments to prevent cybersecurity incidents, making it suitable for various organisations, including start-ups, large enterprises, governments, and the public sector.

Google Cloud, known for its infrastructure and AI proficiency, will integrate Wiz's offerings, aiming to enhance their scalability and effectiveness across multiple cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud. Wiz will continue to be available through partner security solutions, including those on Google Cloud Marketplace.

Currently, the deal awaits customary closing conditions, including the necessary regulatory approvals. If approved, Google anticipates leveraging Wiz's capabilities to strengthen its cloud security offerings further.

No changes will be made to Wiz's existing product offerings, and they will remain universally available across different cloud environments, ensuring broad accessibility and integration.
