Prometheus acquires Actenum to boost AI scheduling
Prometheus Group has bought Canadian software company Actenum in a deal that adds artificial intelligence-based scheduling technology to its asset management platform.
The acquisition brings Actenum's optimisation software into Prometheus Group's products for asset-intensive industries. The companies did not disclose financial terms.
Prometheus Group is based in Raleigh, North Carolina. It develops software that links with large enterprise resource planning systems and supports maintenance and operations teams.
Actenum was founded in 2003 and is headquartered in Vancouver. It develops AI tools that focus on scheduling and optimisation for sectors such as oil and gas.
AI scheduling focus
Actenum's core product is its Decision Support Optimisation, or DSO, technology. The software uses AI to analyse complex operational data.
DSO generates scheduling options and recommendations. It focuses on throughput, cycle times, and the use of people and equipment.
Prometheus Group said it will add this technology to its existing AI platform. The group currently offers tools for planning, scheduling, turnarounds, outages, and performance tracking.
The combined platform is aimed at asset-intensive organisations. These include operators in oil and gas, utilities, chemicals, mining, and manufacturing.
Eric Huang, Chief Executive of Prometheus Group, said the acquisition reflects growing interest in AI for operations. He said companies are changing how they organise and run their work.
"AI is reshaping how organisations plan, schedule, and execute," said Eric Huang, CEO, Prometheus Group. "By bringing Actenum into the Prometheus AI platform, we're giving customers a powerful new engine for intelligent operations. One that predicts outcomes, optimises decisions in real time, and unlocks measurable value across their entire asset lifecycle."
Prometheus Group said customers want more automated decision support. It said many operations teams still rely on manual planning processes.
Scenario planning demand
Actenum has focused on interactive scenario planning. Its software lets users test different operational plans under changing constraints.
The company said customers report shorter scheduling cycles and closer alignment between teams. It also said users see improved capital efficiency and multimillion-dollar efficiency gains.
Actenum has worked with upstream oil and gas operators for many years. Its tools support activities such as well delivery and asset development planning.
The software also covers turnarounds and shutdowns. These events often involve large workforces and tight deadlines.
Prometheus Group plans to extend these scheduling tools beyond oil and gas. It aims to address other asset-heavy sectors that manage complex work programmes.
Paul Maurer, Chief Executive of Actenum, said the deal will broaden the use of the company's software. He said it will reach a wider set of industries.
"We've spent years helping the world's leading upstream oil and gas operators turn scheduling into a competitive advantage," said Paul Maurer, CEO, Actenum. "Joining Prometheus Group allows us to bring that value to even more customers and expand use cases across asset-intensive industries including oil and gas, utilities, chemicals, mining, and manufacturing. Together, we'll deliver the most comprehensive AI-enabled scheduling and optimisation platform available today."
Unified platform push
Prometheus Group has stated a strategy of unifying asset management on a single intelligent platform. This covers planning, day-to-day work management, and performance optimisation.
The company said the addition of Actenum's products will reduce manual work for customers. It said users will gain more insight into their operations.
Prometheus Group also said the combined software aims to focus scarce resources on the most important tasks. It said this can take place without major disruption to existing processes.
The group said the integration of Actenum's AI will support operational decisions in real time. It said this will align plans with constraints in the field.
Prometheus Group said it wants every schedule on its platform to be based on data and operational realities. It said this should improve execution and consistency.
The company stated that the transaction supports its mission for asset-intensive organisations. It is targeting customers that seek gains in speed, efficiency and operational performance.
