Kodak Alaris unveils S5000 scanners & Capture Pro 7.0 update

Thu, 17th Jul 2025

Kodak Alaris has introduced the KODAK S5000 Series Scanners alongside the latest update to its Kodak Capture Pro software, targeting high-volume and high-precision document capture operations.

The S5000 Series supersedes the previous KODAK i5000 Series and continues the company's expansion within the production scanner segment, where Kodak Alaris reports an average market share of 85% over the last ten years.

The new scanners address the demands of organisations requiring robust, flexible solutions for document digitisation. The S5000 Series includes the S5160, S5180, and S5210 models, each providing support for the US Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) standards from the outset. For users who must comply with these standards, FADGI mode can be activated directly from the scanner interface.

The S5000 Series offers a range of image capture enhancements and workflow features. The scanners employ refined Dynamic Flow Technology with 32 CPU cores, enabling the system to process up to 1,260 images per minute (ipm). The inclusion of Tri-Stream scanning capabilities allows operators to 'Scan-Once, Output-Many', which supports parallel output for different purposes without requiring multiple scans of the same documents.

Perfect Page technology is incorporated to deliver consistent image quality, with the system designed to produce images exceeding the clarity of the original documents. In addition, the Intelligent Document Protection system monitors for feed issues and alerts users before jams or misfeeds can occur, aiming to protect documents and minimise operational downtime. An integrated metal detection feature can identify metallic items such as staples and paper clips, further reducing the risk of document damage and scan errors.

The KODAK S5210 specifically introduces a batch scanning feature called Image Addressing, offering a way to uniquely identify and sequence scanned batches and documents, which can be particularly useful for complex scanning workflows involving indexed or regulated documentation.

Usability features include a 9.3-inch control panel and a 7.5-inch high-contrast touchscreen, which together facilitate scanning profile selection, error resolution, and real-time device monitoring. Operators can control and customise workflows via simple swipe and tap commands.

Software integration

The S5000 Series Scanners are engineered to work with KODAK Capture Pro Software, which in its version 7.0 utilises 64-bit processing to support greater speed and reliability. The software update also features a redesigned interface intended to reduce complexity and improve ease of use for end users.

Among the additional features is a Continuous Cropping Mode within the S5000 Series, supporting the scanning of documents with no defined length by segmenting images into manageable pieces. When used in conjunction with Capture Pro V7.0, the software can automatically reconstruct these segments into a single digital image.

Company perspective

"We continue to invest in our product lines to help our customers power up their digital transformation, document compliance policies, and document capture processes. This launch builds on our long history of leadership in the document capture space and further enhances our broad scanner portfolio, combining unparalleled ease of use with proprietary features to make it easy for operators to capture paper-based information and deliver the data into core business applications, quickly and accurately.

Megan Bevilacqua, Senior Product Manager at Kodak Alaris, provided further comment on the release. She stated, "With the best in class and built to last KODAK S5000 Series Scanners and KODAK Capture Pro 7.0 Software, customers benefit from unmatched versatility, speed and image quality."

The launch of the KODAK S5000 Series Scanners and Kodak Capture Pro 7.0 is intended to provide organisations with tools to address increasingly complex workflows and compliance requirements, supporting customers in managing and leveraging their paper-based information as part of broader digital transformation strategies.
