Infosys has expanded its multi-year collaboration with GlobalFoundries to cover managed services across the semiconductor manufacturer's global enterprise IT operations.

Under the arrangement, Infosys will take responsibility for GlobalFoundries' application, infrastructure, data and service desk operations as the chipmaker shifts to a managed services model using artificial intelligence and automation.

GlobalFoundries, known as GF, chose Infosys based on its existing role as a technology provider and its semiconductor industry expertise. The deal broadens an established relationship at a time when manufacturers are seeking to streamline large, complex internal IT environments.

The agreement places a substantial part of GF's enterprise technology estate under Infosys' management, including day-to-day support functions and the underlying systems and data services used across the business.

IT overhaul

The collaboration is intended to move GF from externally supported operations to a managed services structure with more standardised oversight. In practice, Infosys will oversee a wider set of operational tasks and apply automation tools to routine service management.

For semiconductor manufacturers, internal IT systems underpin everything from workforce support to business planning and operational coordination. Keeping those systems stable has become more important as companies handle larger volumes of data and run more software across multiple regions.

Managed services contracts of this kind are increasingly tied to artificial intelligence tools designed to identify problems earlier, reduce service interruptions and improve response times for employees. Suppliers have positioned these tools as a way to reshape IT operations rather than simply reduce headcount or cut support costs.

GF framed the expanded partnership as part of a broader effort to modernise its technology operations, with the aim of improving efficiency, resilience and user experience across the organisation.

Vishal Mehra, Chief Information Officer at GF, outlined the rationale for the renewed arrangement.

"The renewed collaboration marks a significant step forward in GF's journey to modernise IT operations and achieve higher levels of efficiency, resilience and user experience. As a leading global semiconductor manufacturer, we are committed to advancing our digital transformation to drive greater reliability and value. Collaborating with Infosys will help us equip our teams with next-generation capabilities to accelerate this transformation journey," said Vishal Mehra, Chief Information Officer at GF.

AI focus

Infosys said the work will rely on artificial intelligence, automation and continuous optimisation across the service environment. The company is one of several large IT services providers seeking a bigger role in running core business systems as clients update older operating models.

The agreement also highlights continuing demand for external support in sectors where IT estates are both business-critical and technically complex. Semiconductor production is highly specialised, but companies in the sector still depend on conventional enterprise systems for finance, human resources, procurement, analytics and service management.

By bringing those functions together under a broader managed services arrangement, GF is seeking more unified control of internal technology operations. That approach can give a single provider visibility across applications, infrastructure and support channels, which may affect how quickly faults are identified and resolved.

Infosys said the operating model would aim to move IT management from a reactive footing to a more predictive one. It also tied the programme to end-user experience and the long-term cost of ownership, both common benchmarks in outsourcing and managed services agreements.

Anand Swaminathan, EVP and Global Industry Leader, Communications, Media & Technology, Infosys, set out the company's view of the project.

"By combining our deep domain expertise, AI capabilities and an outcome-based operating model, we will help GF reduce incidents, improve end-user experiences and sustainably lower TCO over the long term. Infosys will unlock AI value at scale to play a central role in driving intelligent operations, helping GF transition from reactive IT management to predictive and autonomous service delivery," said Anand Swaminathan, EVP and Global Industry Leader, Communications, Media & Technology, Infosys.

The expanded collaboration underlines how large technology services groups are trying to deepen existing customer relationships by taking on broader operational roles, particularly in industries where continuity, systems integration and service reliability are closely tied to business performance.
