Safe Software wins data integration platform award

Thu, 16th Apr 2026 (Yesterday)

Safe Software has won the Data Integration Platform of the Year award at the Data Breakthrough Awards for its FME platform.

Data Breakthrough runs an annual awards programme for companies and products in the global data technology market. The Surrey-based software firm said the award recognises FME, its long-established data integration and transformation platform.

According to Safe, FME is used by more than 20,000 organisations worldwide. The software is designed to help organisations work with a wide range of data types, including spatial data, through a no-code interface.

The recognition follows several additions to the FME platform over the past year, including FME Data Virtualization, FME Realise, the release of FME Remote Engines Service on Snowflake Marketplace, the availability of FME Flow in AWS Marketplace, and Model Context Protocol support across the platform.

Safe said FME Data Virtualization allows users to create OpenAPI-compliant REST APIs within the integration layer. This is intended to remove the need for separate API gateways and simplify data access for AI-related use cases.

FME Realise, another recent release, is aimed at field and mobile teams. It allows utility workers and engineers to view and interact with digital twins in real time through iOS devices and Apple Vision Pro.

Safe has been developing data software for more than three decades. The company said the latest award reflects both the platform's longevity and its recent expansion into areas such as data virtualisation, augmented reality, and AI-related tooling.

"Being recognized this way, after 32 years of working on this problem, is something I genuinely didn't see coming, and that makes it all the more meaningful. When we started Safe Software, we simply wanted to help organizations do more with their data. What FME has grown into, and what our customers have built with it, is beyond anything we imagined," said Don Murray, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Safe Software.

The awards programme is run by Data Breakthrough, which describes itself as an independent market intelligence organisation. It said the annual scheme draws thousands of nominations across analytics, infrastructure, DataOps, AI, storage, observability, and real-time intelligence.

Steve Johansson, Managing Director at Data Breakthrough, said the judges viewed FME as a product with broad practical use across industries. He said its adoption has supported work in public services, infrastructure management, and operational processes.

"Safe Software redefines what's possible when all data becomes accessible to any AI. FME transforms how organizations use their data to solve real-world challenges. From improving public services to managing infrastructure or accelerating operational efficiency, teams are using FME to modernize workflows and unlock smarter, more resilient outcomes. We're pleased to award Safe with 'Data Integration Platform of the Year,'" said Johansson.
